Join Merchant Navy – Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission, you must meet the following conditions:
- You must be an unmarried male citizen of Pakistan.
- Your age should not exceed 20 years as of 31 December 2023. However, for residents of Gilgit Baltistan and AJK Balochistan, a one-year age relaxation is applicable, making the maximum age limit 21 years.
- Academic Qualification:
- Candidates must have passed F.Sc Pre-Engineering or have an O/A Level education with a subject combination of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with at least 55% marks.
- Candidates with O/A Level qualifications must submit an Equivalence Certificate.
- Candidates appearing in F.Sc A Level Part-II exams with a minimum of 60% marks in Part-I can also apply. However, they need to provide a Hope Certificate from the head of their respective college or institute.
- Note: If a candidate fails to achieve 55% marks in F.Sc after providing a Hope Certificate, they will be disqualified at any stage of the selection process or discharged during training.
Training and Education
Upon admission, you will undergo a comprehensive two-year residential training program at the Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA). This training will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to excel in your career. Upon completion of the training, you will be awarded an Associate Degree in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering by the prestigious NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi. Additionally, you will receive certificates for completing the International Maritime Organization (IMO) recognized Pre-Sea Mandatory Courses.
Scholarships and Registration Process of Join Merchant Navy
The Pakistan Marine Academy offers several scholarships to deserving cadets. There are 37 fully paid scholarships, with 33 need-based scholarships sponsored by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and 4 need-based scholarships given by the Global Radiance Group of Companies. The distribution of the 33 need-based scholarships sponsored by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs is as follows:
- Punjab: 06 scholarships
- Sindh: 06 scholarships
- Balochistan: 15 scholarships
- KPK: 06 scholarships
To register for the admissions, follow these steps:
- Download the prospectus and application form from the PMA website (www.marineacademy.edu.pk) or obtain it from the PMA Admission Office.
- Submit the completed application form along with a pay order/bank draft of Rs. 3,000/- favoring Pakistan Marine Academy, Karachi, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), PMA Branch Code-0239 through a courier service.
- Candidates applying under the Self-Finance Scheme (SFS) must submit an additional pay order/bank draft of Rs. 300,000/- along with the application form.
- If a candidate selected on open-merit or does not meet PMA eligibility criteria, the SFS fee will be refunded.
Selection Procedure and Ineligibility
The selection procedure for admission involves an entrance test, medical examination, physical efficiency test (PET), and a final interview. The minimum requirement to qualify for the entrance test is a score of at least 50%. The entrance test will be conducted at various locations, including Abbottabad, Gwadar, Lahore, Multan, Muzaffarabad (AJK), Rawalpindi, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, and Sukkur through hired testing agencies. However, there are certain conditions that render a candidate ineligible for admission. These conditions include:
- Submitting tampered academic certificates/mark-sheets/documents.
- Concealing information in the application form or providing false information.
- Withdrawn from any academy/training institution, including Armed Forces, on disciplinary grounds.
- Dismissed/Removed/Debarred/Resigned from Government Service, including Armed Forces.
- Being convicted by a court of law for an offense involving moral turpitude or any other offense.
- Non-combination of subjects and Diploma holders (DAE) are not eligible.
- Being declared medically unfit by an Armed Forces hospital/Appeal Medical Board.
- Candidates declared color blind.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Standards of Join Merchant Navy
The PET standards for the selection process are as follows:
- One Mile Run (1.6 km): Completion in 8 minutes.
- Push-ups: 15 repetitions.
- Sit-ups: 5 repetitions.
- Chin-ups: 2 repetitions.
